Frequently Asked Questions
No—all of our products are standard US sizes. You do not need special bedding or bedframes. Our mattress—and flexible slats—fit in any standard box-spring style or platform bedframe. It is important, however, that the bedframe you intend to use is strong, stable, and fitted with a center-support leg. Any instability or flex that a bedframe allows will compromise the performance of your mattress and negatively impact your comfort. If you have any questions regarding the suitability of your frame’s support, please consult one of our sales people.
It seems the label “organic” is used liberally and loosely these days to describe all kinds of products. At European Sleep Works, we take care to be specific about our materials and only use the word organic where it truly applies. We do make a mattress out of natural materials, including certified organic cotton. We also use Merino wool and 100% natural latex.
Our wool comes from sheep that roam freely in their natural, pesticide-free environment. The German supplier that processes our wool washes it in a series of soda baths and submits the finished fabric to Oeko-Tex for chemical-free certification. We only buy latex from suppliers who wash their latex thoroughly to rid the latex of additives at the end of the production cycle. We ensure this latex has been Oeko-Tex certified, which guarantees a pure product.
Our mattresses are, by design, flexible and modifiable to meet changing support needs—even after purchase. We have a good success rate of getting customers comfortable. But we realize nothing will work for everyone. If you are not happy with your European Sleep Works mattress, you may return it within 60 days of delivery for a full refund. We do not refund delivery or pick up fees.
Perhaps. Or it may help mitigate your snoring. Snoring is a complex problem with numerous contributing factors—some of which a pillow can’t address. However, our research, testing, and experience have indicated there is a critical relationship between body position and breathing. When the head, neck, and shoulders are in a neutral, open, aligned posture, it makes breathing easier. The Oxygen Pillow was designed to help stabilize sleep posture and maximize airflow. For some snorers, this makes a modest difference, but for some it can be profound. And when it comes to improving nighttime breathing (and snoring), every bit counts.
Only 3-4 mattress companies – and even fewer component manufacturers – dominate the U.S. market. They make high profits with the name brand mattresses they sell so they have no incentive to introduce something different. We found that the European approach offered some big advantages in terms of comfort, performance, and health, and we have designed our products based on this model.
You don't. But we understand how difficult buying a mattress can be. In fact, research shows 30% of consumers are unsuccessful in their first serious attempt at making a mattress purchase and delay the buying decision for up to a year. And 30% don't like the one they finally do purchase. European Sleep Works builds a mattress that wears consistently, so there are no surprises. Best of all, our mattress design and our flexible slat system both allow for support and firmness modification after purchase.
Fix it? That's a hard one to answer. Physical problems have many sources. A mattress with poor support can certainly aggravate a condition. And if you sleep on the right mattress, you may find the problem improves. But no mattress can guarantee it’s a "cure" for anything. All we do know is that ours will provide excellent support and comfort.
Yes. We understand that most people sleep in multiple positions. We've found, in fitting thousands of customers, that the base support provided by this sleep system accommodates the differing needs of back and side-sleeping.
The slat settings you receive cover a fairly wide range of changing needs. But sometimes you need a re-adjustment. Most problems are easy to solve; you can try different slider settings yourself. Or you can call us and we will help you determine how to reposition the sliders to get the best results.
Very rarely. But should this happen, we can send you a new slat, and you can easily replace it yourself: snap in, snap out. You don't need any tools or special hardware.
High quality, all-natural latex foam is the single most durable cushioning material known. There is a range of latex products on the market and quality does vary. Some are blended with synthetics or silicates. Others may be real latex but are subjected to inferior processing. These processes result in less durability. European Sleep Works uses only 100% all-natural latex foam, and while it will wear over time with use, you should expect ten years of consistent performance.
Our mattresses are a great choice for allergy sufferers. The key to controlling allergens is minimizing moisture. A dry sleep environment is a less allergic sleep environment. We use breathable, natural materials: cotton, wool, and latex. These materials do a great job venting perspiration to keep your mattress drier, discouraging mold, mildew, and dust mites. And all the materials we use are Oeko-Tex certified.
Our mattresses contain no harmful chemicals, no PBDEs, no formaldehyde, no dangerous residues that can be inhaled or absorbed. The textile components of our mattresses have been thoroughly tested and certified 100% clean and safe by Oeko-Tex, an environmental testing agency based in Europe. European Sleep Works mattresses meet fire-retardant codes because we quilt our mattresses with wool.
No. Traditional mattresses are made with synthetics and polyesters that don't allow moisture to evaporate; they retain moisture and lock the humidity in making you sleep hotter. Our mattresses have several elements that guard against that. The cotton mattress covering allows moisture to permeate and evaporate instead of trapping it. The mattress cover has wool batting that dissipates moisture, keeping sleeping temperatures comfortable. Natural latex foam doesn’t trap moisture like polyurethane can, and our steel coils allow air to circulate freely.
You will experience very little motion on our mattress models. Because of the resiliency of the latex, the elasticity of the stretch cotton cover, the significantly higher number of compressed coils, and the flexibility of the slat suspension, our mattresses are extremely quiet.
Not necessarily. It's not a question of better support; in fact, a too-firm mattress lacks good contact pressure relief and therefore is not providing adequate support. In a well-designed mattress, firmness or softness are both part of the support equation. You’ll experience the greatest comfort by choosing a firmness that is appropriate for your needs rather than defaulting to a firm mattress.
Probably several reasons. In most cases, the poor quality cushioning (couch-grade polyfoam) is the culprit. It loses about 40% of its resilience in the first 18 months. Research shows that if it was an extra-thickly padded mattress, it breaks down even faster. Also, many U.S. manufacturers are not making higher innerspring coils for these extra-thick mattresses. They're elongating the standard coil, which results in compression and loss of shock absorption properties relatively quickly.
We warranty our mattresses and flexible slat systems against premature wear or defect for 10 years. A well-built mattress made from quality materials should have around a 10-year lifespan. Consumers should expect an “arc of wear” from their mattress—gradual, incremental wear. After a decade, both you and your mattress have changed. To adequately meet your support and comfort needs, you will most likely need to replace your mattress at this time.
